Melissa Hill

Artist Melissa Hill started grown up life in a grown up way as an economist and equities analyst after earning her BA from Sarah Lawrence College in New York.

That was a lot of work, especially when three children were delivered, so she thought running her own fashion accessories business and mentoring young people in state care and running a local youth club would be more relaxing. The company, Stone Bridge, achieved cult status, with her designs being avidly collected by fashion stylists, and appearing in film and television series internationally.

After a decade or so of taking it so easy, Melissa felt way too relaxed, so enrolled at The Cass School of Architecture, Art and Design in London, and collected another BA (Hons) in Graphic Design.

Melissa began developing a commercial surface design portfolio, and she shows annually in New York with Blue Print Shows.

Sadly, she fell in with a motley crew of artists, mostly the hellcat women of the London Group who led her astray.

Her artistic practice is inspired by her love of traditional and feminine decorative motifs, mixed up with boiling political outrage, resulting in uncomfortable pieces for the home exploring themes of ethnic identity, and international migration and displacement.
